South and Vale Holiday Activities
During most school holidays, our Active Communities team offer a range of free and low-cost activities, for young children, teenagers and families to enjoy at locations across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse.
Bookings open around a month before each holiday period – follow our new Active Communities Facebook page, you can join our mailing list to receive regular email updates, or if you have any questions; please email active.communities@southandvale.gov.uk
The activities are usually very popular, we encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment. See below for details of our next programme of holiday activities and how to book. Booking is required to be able to attend our activities.
What’s on, where and when:
May half term
The Active Communities team are offering a range of activities for you and your family to be active during May half term. Activities are low-cost or free, please see each activity for pricing.
Bookings must be made in advance and tickets can be purchased online on the day if there is still space available.
Softball and Cricket Fun Activity Camp – Age 8-12
Come and join our fun Cricket camps run by the qualified coaches from Oxfordshire Cricket! With a range of softball and cricket, learn more about the game and learn some skills and how to play the game!
- 10am-2pm
- Wednesday 27 May, Ardington Cricket Club, Ardington, Wantage OX12 8QB
- Thursday 28 May, Didcot Cricket Club, Greenwood Way, Didcot OX11 6EY
- £10 per child or £5 with YouMove card children age 8-12 only

Faringdon Fun Day
Come and join us for a fun active day at Faringdon Leisure Centre.
- 9am-4pm – Wednesday 27 May, Faringdon Leisure Centre, Fernham Road, Faringdon, Oxfordshire SN7 7LB
Sessions include:
- 10-10.45am Football for under 5’s
- 11-11.45am – Football for 6-10 years
- Midday-1pm – Family badminton
- 1-2pm – Family Pickleball
- 2.30-3pm – Seated Exercise class
- 3-4.30pm – Roller Disco

Xplorer
Come and join us for our free Xplorer sessions, a family-friendly fun navigation challenge that is educational and gives children a sense of adventure as they explore the park to find the markers. Incorporating orienteering skills in a unique and fun way. Perfect for all ages the whole family.

Active Leaders Course – Age 14-18
Due to unforeseen circumstances the session has been cancelled over May half term. We will be running an Active Leaders Course in the October half term 26-30 October.

Art Centre’s Half Term Activities
The Beacon, Wantage
This May half-term at The Beacon, children can enjoy a relaxed screening of the beloved children’s classic ‘The Gruffalo’ followed by a stay and play session on Thursday 28 May.
And don’t miss the Wantage Children’s Books Festival on Saturday 30 May. A full day of free events and activities to entertain and inspire children and families to get reading.

Cornerstone Arts Centre
Over at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot, families can dance into May half-term at Dinky Disco on Saturday 30 May, a fun-filled party for children aged 10 and under. With upbeat music and party games, it’s the perfect way for little ones and their families to enjoy some feel-good holiday fun.
